Mindray BC-5130 / BC-5150 QC results not transmitting to the LIS

A support note from the QCnomics team, written up for other laboratories with the same problem.

Mindray 5-part haematology analyzers (BC-5130, BC-5150, BC-5380) send results to the LIS in HL7 v2 over TCP. Three details trip up QC transmission.

QC is sent only when you press Comm

Patient results go out automatically; QC results from the QC screen are transmitted when the Comm (communicate) button is pressed for the selected file (L1, L2, L3). Back-dated QC can only be viewed in the graph and is not resent; only the current entries can be transmitted.

The message identifies itself differently from patient results

QC messages carry the control lot in PID-3 and use the ^99MRC code system for the parameters, often with empty sending-application fields. Middleware that keys on the sending application will treat these as unknown; QCnomics recognises the ^99MRC code system and takes the lot from PID-3.

Units

The analyzer reports counts as 10*9/L and 10*12/L, while most Indian laboratories keep their QC in 10³/µL and 10⁶/µL. These are the same number; QC software must treat them as equal or every result will be flagged as a 1000× error.

Expired lots

If the analyzer still holds results of an expired control lot in its QC files, the first transmission sends all of it. Decide in advance whether old results should be posted or ignored; QCnomics asks before posting anything older than the current lot.

Seen in practice: 2,441 results from expired lots arrived with the first Comm. They were kept in staging and not posted, and today's L1 was posted under its original run time.
